Amy Boulden produces career best performance at French Open
LLANDUDNO golfer Amy Boulden produced another career best performance to finish joint second at the Lacoste French Open.
The 21-year-old has been in sensational form of late, and produced two rounds of the highest quality over the weekend to move into first place in the Ladies European Tour Rookie of the Year standings.
Despite back-to-back rounds of 66 to close out the tournament, she narrowly missed out on the title, finishing one shot adrift of Spain’s Azahara Munoz, who won the event for the second year in succession.
The Conwy Golf Club member said: “I got off to a rough start with a double bogey on the third but made my way back up and made quite a few birdies coming in.
“I gave it my best shot over the last few holes and Aza just made two great birdies on the last two holes so fair play, well deserved.”
Boulden, who was playing in the penultimate group, the first year professional was in fantastic form once again, making six birdies but a crucial double bogey at the third hole would end up being the difference between winning and losing the tournament.
This is the third time that Boulden has secured a top five finish on the tour this year, and this latest success takes her earnings for the season to £58,000 from just 12 events, which puts her £9,500 ahead of Scotland’s Sally Watson in her quest to be crowned the best first year pro on the circuit.
